Decca Records are celebrating their rich history with two exciting and highly desirable new additions to the DECCA 7-INCH SINGLES CLUB, recreating two rare four song E.P.s (Extended Play) from the Sixties Mod era, complete with their original B-Sides.

Formed in London in 1964 The Birds were a British R&B quintet comprised of Ali McKenzie (vocals, harmonica), Tony Munroe (rhythm guitar, vocals), Pete McDaniels (drums), Kim Gardner (bass), and - perhaps most notably - Ronnie Wood (lead guitar, vocals). In a 12-month spell between November 1964 and October 1965 they recorded three singles for Decca, the second and third of them compiled for a four song E.P in France in May '66 that provided the inspiration for this new release.

The two original A-Sides were covers of songs originally recorded by Tamla Motown artists - 'No Good Without You Baby' appeared on Marvin Gaye's 1965 album 'How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You' (and was later covered by his former label mates the Four Tops, and the Isley Brothers), while 'Leaving Here' was a 1963 single for Eddie Holland, written by him with Brian and Eddie Holland. However the two B-Sides were original compositions by Ronnie Wood.

When The Birds' singles missed out on the chart Wood and Gardner joined another beloved Mod group The Creation; Wood's next move was the Jeff Beck Group, followed the Faces, and - officially since 1976 - the Rolling Stones. Gardner formed the trio Ashton, Gardner and Dyke, who had a No. 3 hit in February 1971 with 'Resurrection Shuffle'.

It's a combination of this lineage, and the timeless, excitable music that The Birds produced in their brief career that has seen fans paying more than £400 for original copies of these singles. Decca Records is happy to make these songs available once more (at a less eye-watering price) on clear 7-inch vinyl, in a striking new sleeve.
